This cute little beanie uses the same pattern as you see on the Beanie Baby Hat Pattern page. Once I knit an inch of the one color I started adding the vertical stripes. To do this knit two with one color and two with the second color. Keep alternating. It is very important that you have exactly 72 stitches, so make sure of this before you start. Once you get to the crown just knit with one color, not two and decrease the same way. The dreadlocks are knit separately and added. This is also cute with a pom pom.

This was more fun that a knitter can stand. I bought these two yarns, the green and blue, and made the hat almost like the dread lock beanies. Here is the one difference. I knit a 1 inch rib before I alternated the knit 2, knit 2. To knit a rib you knit two (k2) then purl two (p2) for 1 inch. This prevents the rim from rolling like in our other hats. This also allows the hat to be turned up if it is too big. So this style is one a baby can grow with.
Introducing the moss stitch.
The hat on the right is made with Nashua Cilantro yarn. This pattern has a knit 2, pearl 2 (k2,p2) rib. The rest is knit in the moss stitch as follows: k2,p2 for two rows then p2,k2 for two rows. Repeat these 4 rows until you get to the crown. Knit the crown as directed in the beanie pattern. The hat on the left is knit with the same yarn, but striped with Jelli Beenz left over from the three hats above.
